A professional “grunge” cyclist, who from this year runs for the German team Bora-Hansgrohe. I’ve been trying to run as a hooligan and with boorishness since 2009, always giving 110% when I’m in the race. I spit my soul and never have any regrets when I cross the finish line. To tell you the truth, however, I did once: I wanted to stop for a beer at a fan stand along the Alpe d’Huez. I was in my fifth Tour de France. I didn’t do it and I still think about it today.
To date my greatest satisfactions have been the two world gold medals, and the two silver medals, in the team time trial, and a podium in the Belgian classic in Harelbeke where I ended up between Cancellara and Sagan, from this year back to being my team-mate. The worst piss I suffered when I retired from Paris-Roubaix in 2015, and when I finished fourth in a sprint on a stage of the Tour de France. I thought I was third and I was too disappointed!
The Tour of Flanders is my favorite race, I love punk, pistachio, polenta served with rabbit, I try in vain to play the 4-string electric bass guitar and when I hear a Nirvana or Queen of Stone Age song I get a bad pogo stick with the first person in my sights.
My favorite drink is the American and my threshold when I am in shape is 445 Watts at 177 beats. I weigh 78 kg around Easter, 81 under the Christmas holidays.
I only have one record, in a segment on strava, near Torbole sul Garda, where I live. I enjoy training and I always try to push myself beyond my limits.
My motto is: great engine, great consumption. So I eat!I seek peace of mind and happiness.♪ I’m inclined to teamwork and entrepreneurship.
